It's Friday, and every Friday I make a new alpha release of Arcana Kira. This…
Well, I pooped out Arcana Kira playable alpha 1 today, less than 3 months after Arcana Kira was sketched up & the game was conceived. I was up until 2am last night, and woke up at 5am to start the long haul towards public alpha release. Just now finished and it’s 6:30pm where I am, and I’m officially a zombie now. Only 6.5 hours late and a quarter of the game I was hoping to ship on this date, but at least I have something to show off and can now start promoting the game in earnest.

Now the game I shipped today will likely not completely resemble the game that ships on November 2, 2015, the target retail release date. That’s because there’s a lot of filler, still half an empty map, I haven’t placed all the collectables, I nerfed the quests in the first playable version to give more access to vortexes, I made 2 boss fights today (yeah, there were no bosses in the game yesterday, those are new today for this release, along with 3 save slots, yesterday there was only one.) Anyway, you get the idea. This is 3 months worth of work, much of it foundational. Now that the foundations are there, it’s a lot easier to focus on content creation. Good thing this half finished alpha is only the current version for a week, as next Friday, and every Friday after that until the game is done, expect major and minor updates.
By next Friday I hope to have some real vortex levels designed (you’re looking at place holders once you’re inside the Terra or Tritonis vortexes) and to stamp out some of the crappy bugs. In addition, I’ll be filling in more areas, and hopefully get the world map HUD done by next Friday (no promises.) Anyway, look at what I did in 3 months. Imagine how far along this game will be in another 3 months.
Feel free to tear me a new asshole. I realize this alpha is broken, buggy, and not fun in a lot of ways. It’s incomplete, and with your help and feedback in 6 months time it will be long completed & hopefully polished to a shine.
